“Find a place inside where there’s joy, and the joy will burn out the pain.” — Joseph Campbell
Where is your joy?
Is it in hiking a lovely trail? A good night’s sleep? A photograph well taken? A song beautifully sung? Is it in the crafting of words, laid one by one like bricks upon the rising wall, sealed together with the mortar of meaning until the cathedral emerges? Is it running through the open fields of your wild imagination? Is it in the stretching and flexing and building and working of your miraculous body? Is it in that rare and sacred moment of true seeing with another human being? Is it in the thrill of travel, the adventure of the discovery of wonders you have never experienced? Is it in reading the words of great thinkers and story crafters, and forging bonds across centuries with men and women who lived in another time? Is it in delicious food and drink, and the laughter of friends? Is it in the wild, free peace of solitude, and the silence of the universe that so carefully holds the everything? Is it in the mystery of beauty, hiding everywhere in all of its myriad forms? Is it in God, the Great Spirit of love and wildness that infuses everything and everyone with its light?
Do not think yourself ill-equipped to navigate this darkness. Your soul burns with the light of a thousand suns.
