OPEN YOUR EYES, DEAR
“The fish in the water that is thirsty needs serious professional counseling.” — Kabir
How can you say, “Where is God?”
When his presence saturates
the very breath of air
you take
to say it?
There are many more frequencies
of light
Shining all around us
Than we can see with
the naked eye.
Just because your eye is weak
Doesn’t mean they are not there.
It is the same
with the Beautiful One.
One moment you’re complaining
how lonely you are,
the next you’re in a stadium
bursting with the light
of ten million angels
dancing in wild celebration
over the curve of your lips
when you smile.
Open your eyes, dear.
The party is always happening
all around you.
Note: This poem appears in my book Mike Meets God 2021: A Journal of Exploration, a collection of personal photographs, journal entries, and poems curated from my experiences over those 12 months. I journal and photograph a lot of my life, and created the book as a bit of an experiment, to see whether it might be a fun way to share my experiences with a wider circle of friends. While I haven’t created any more editions yet, I loved the experience, and plan to do more in the future.
