“One day He did not leave after kissing me.” — Rabia
Since the beautiful night when I first met God, he has never left me. Even when I walked through the shadow of death, he came to me before it happened and said, “You will not see me for a while, but I’ll still be there.” He is so vulnerable in his love for me, so unguarded in his delight over me, so transparent in his desire to be near me, it can be difficult to receive — not because He is false, but because I am, to myself. I often forget how priceless I am, until I draw near and see my reflection in His eyes. It’s only in His face that I know myself, only in His gaze I see the truth of what I am.
There is no where I can go where He has not arrived before me, and waited for me there to welcome me with a kiss. There is no thought I can think, no emotion I can feel, no question I can ask that He has not visited ahead of me, and built a palace where we can meet.
The world would heal on its own accord if all the people in it could see this one truth: God is in love with you. But we do not believe it because we do not understand what love is.
God is in love with you.
We see love as a reward we have to earn. But God sees that love is what we are.
We think love means shielding others from suffering or pain. But God knows love needs these teachers to guide us into the fullness of what we can be.
We judge love as soft and sentimental. But God knows love is the greatest power in the universe, and the key to resolving every crisis we face.
We see the vulnerability of love as weakness. But God understands the deeper magic it contains.
God’s vulnerability saved the world.
You see now why He bares His heart to you, why He comes to you naked, begging you to receive His love?
He means to save you, too.
